My Favorite Quotes From Downton Abbey

Good morning friends. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I had been binge watching Downton Abbey.  I finally finished the last episode last night.  If  you have seen Downton you know I felt a great let down when it was over.  I guess the way you are with any series that you watch.  I felt like I got to know all of the characters personally.  I cried like a big baby when the first main cast member died.  I won’t say who it was in case you haven’t watched yet.  I also discovered when someone on the show would say “It’s not my secret to tell” that secret was about to be told. Ha!!

Downton Abbey is an award winning show.  It covers a time period between 1912 and 1926.  The Crawley family and their servants are the people who make up the show.  It is warm and funny and you will fall in love with the entire cast.  Julian Fellowes is the creator, writer and was the executive producer of Downton which ran from 2010-2015.  Quite a writer and producer I would say.

One thing I loved about the show was all the quirky quotes that they came up with.  After the first couple of ones I started to grab my phone and put them in my notes so that I could remember them.  Maybe you have heard some of these but I found them so funny and true and definitely words of wisdom.  I hope you enjoy them too.

“Get back in the knife box Ms. sharp”
” Why do you have to act like a big girl’s blouse”
“Well what did she expect? carrying on with a married man like she lives in a tree”
“Sympathy butters no parsnips”
“A problem shared is a problem solved”
” I guess we only know what we are capable of when we test our limits”
“Does it ever get cold on the moral high ground”
“Sometimes it’s good to rule by fear”
“We’re free we’re safe and I have you”
“There will be a bit of a nine days wonder for sure”
“I thought you would be wreathed in smiles but you’re still cast down”
“We all have to rub along together”
“All that’s needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing”
“This has brought us to within shouting distance of our greatest happiness”
” Well if that just doesn’t take the biscuit”
“Golly gumdrops what a turn up”
” It isn’t my secret to tell”
” If you expect a lot you get a lot”
“The course of true love never did run smooth”
” People don’t want mistakes they just happen”

I hope you enjoyed the quotes.  You can watch the entire series for free if you have Amazon prime.  I haven’t seen the movie but I hope to watch that this weekend.  I hope your week is going well.

Always remember

Love your day your way

  1. Such a fun series, I love the historical series and watch quite a few even if I use english subtitles. There are some fun spanish ones and even one turkish one I have watched. I liked the list of quotes especially sympathy never butters parsnips. chuckle. A Canadian series I zipped through last year was Murdoch Mysteries but you probably have seen it. – ♥

    1. I haven’t watched the Murdoch Mysteries. I will have to check that out. I loved the parsnips quote too you can probably guess it came from Mrs Patmore. I just loved her character. Take care and be safe.

    1. I’m pretty sure you would. I think if I lived back in that time I would have been a servant. They were much more fun in this series. Lol.
