Weekends And A Project

Happy Monday friends how are you?  Did you have a good weekend?  I finally talked Mark into doing a project that has been needing to get done for quite a while.  More on that in just a minute.

Last week I discovered Downton Abbey.  I don’t know why I never watched this before because lord knows all of my family did.  One reason I didn’t was because we had satellite internet and it sucked rocks, I may have mentioned that a few hundred times. We did not have enough bandwidth to watch Netflix or Amazon Prime or anything.

We recently got fiber optic cable in our area and I have been enjoying some things I hadn’t been able to watch.  I started watching the Downton Abbey series and I love it!!!  I collect vintage hats and purses so it inspired me to get my hats out and try them on.  Unfortunately a lot of the vintage clothes, including hats,  run really small.  I have a rather large head.  I am sure it is because my brain is so big.  So I can’t always wear the vintage hats and usually not any of the vintage clothes, although I do have a few vintage coats that I wear.

One of my favorite vintage hats.  The netting is a little rough in places but still in pretty good shape.

img_8702I spent some of the weekend catching up on the Downton series and knitting.  I also had a lot of walks with Scruffy and Molly.

 AND NOW THE PROJECT:

Last year we had new French doors installed in our house.  We had our deck redone and decided to add new doors while we were at it.  I had always wanted the doors with the window blinds on the inside.  How cool would that be, right?  Maybe you have them and maybe you have never had a problem with them. I am happy for you. The doors were installed maybe in February last year 2019.  We didn’t get to add them as soon as we finished the deck because the wrong ones were ordered and the doors had to be sent back and more doors were ordered.  Anyway,  the doors were installed and I loved them.  No more cleaning blinds.

Well only after a month or two I noticed that the blinds inside the glass, on one of the doors,  was not sliding up and down as easily.  By October it was totally twisted and would not go up or down.  I innocently ask my husband how to get the glass off to get it untwisted.  “You don’t” he said, “we will have to get another insert for the door”. The doors have a ten year warranty.

img_8694
This is the twisted blind insert.  It is in the garage waiting for Mark to take it back to the Building Supply Store.

Mark called the building supply place to let them know what happened.  They said we would have to call the supplier directly.  Mark called the supplier and the supplier said “that never happens”.   Mark is so much nicer than I am.  He told the man it had happened and we could send a picture of it if he would like.  The supplier pretty much blew Mark off and wasn’t interested in doing anything about it.  Again, I tell you he is much nicer than I am. After I made several threats that involved me calling the building supply salesman as well as the supplier and possibly a large amount of money for bail, Mark called the store again and told our salesman what the supplier had said.  He was furious!!!  He said “don’t worry I will call the supplier and take care of this”.   He did, and within a couple of weeks a new door insert arrived and was dropped off in our yard.  This was just after Christmas.

I’ll admit I am somewhat muscularly challenged so when I tell you it was difficult for Mark and I to get the insert into the house it is an understatement.  I asked when the deck builders would arrive to install the insert.  Mark said ” we don’t need them we can do it ourselves” These are words that instill fear in my very being.  The insert is actually the guts of the door.  It was heavy!!!  How are we going to put this in the door frame when we can barely lift it I ask my overly confident husband. “Oh it will be fine” he said “you’ll see it will only take a few minutes to pop the old one out and put the new one in.”

We didn’t want to break the new insert and we really didn’t have anywhere to put it so we just laid it on the rug in front of the French doors.  The other insert with the twisted blinds was still intact.  I would like to say we hopped on that project and got the door put in that very week.  Nope.  The door laid on the rug for several months.  Kitty Kitty quite enjoyed it.  The sun would shine in and warm the glass and she would lounge on it. We vacuumed and mopped around it.  It kind of became a part of the living room.

Since Mark and I have had more at home time together we (I) decided it was time to install the insert.  We carefully removed all the screws from the new door insert and got it ready to put in.  We then took all of the screws out of the old insert thinking once we took the frame from around it it would just pop out.  So we were standing by ready for it to come out and it didn’t. We wound up having to take these little razor blade things around the door frame to break the caulk seal.  Using the blades was scary considering I am clumsy, we are quarantined and the nearest hospital is approximately 40 minutes away.  Once that was done the insert came out pretty easy.  Again the insert was really heavy but we got the new one put inside the door and the frame put back around it and all of the screws back in and it only took two hours!!! HA HA.  But it is done and it looks great!!!  I am not sure how long this one will last but I am skeptical.  This one also has a ten year warranty and maybe the next one will only take a few minutes to install.

The finished project.  When we got the new one in I ask where we would put the old one until Mark could get it delivered back to the store.  He said ” well I guess we will just leave it here where we had the other one”.  NO!!!!  I ran to the garage to make room for the old one.  It is so wonderful to have my floor back and blinds I can raise up and down again.   I think Kitty Kitty misses  the insert on the floor but not me!!

So that is most of my weekend.  How was yours?

Always remember

Love your day your way!!!

Weekends And A Confession

Hello friends, how are you.   It is Sunday evening and it has been a very quiet weekend.  How about for you?

I started my Saturday morning by going to our local Walmart very early.  For some reason our Walmart hasn’t gotten their crap together to have the curbside delivery that almost every other Walmart in the world has.  I am not sure what the problem is but every time I ask they assure me it is going to happen in a matter of weeks.  I have been asking for about two years.  Another Walmart in a nearby city does have the service and I may try that one next week.  I think it will be worth the drive.

I feel for the workers, I am sure they don’t want to have to be there.  When I went into the store, the first thing I noticed was how very quiet it was.  It was like people were talking in whispers if they were talking at all.  Most people had gloves on.  All of the workers did.  Some people were wearing masks.  It was a very different world than what it was a few weeks ago.  You don’t see people standing in groups talking or sharing things.

I quickly got my groceries and went back home.  Once I was at home I immediately went upstairs threw my clothes in the wash and showered.  It may not help a thing but it made me feel better.

This weekend has been very quiet. Mark has been at home too.   I read and napped and took some walks with the babies.  I noticed that the Dogwoods are blooming.  We always call these “Wild Forest Dogwoods” because they weren’t planted they grow wild in the woods which for us is our yard.

The Redbuds are in full bloom and are completely purple.  They’re beautiful!!!

I finished two scarves and used my yarn swift and winder to roll two more balls of yarn to start on very soon.  I love these colors.

Remember the picture I took of this tree a few weeks ago.  I love it!!  I pass it on my way to work every day.   This is a winter scene.  I want to take a picture of the different seasons to show how the tree looks different.

img_8209
This is the tree in spring just a few weeks later.  Notice the buds on the tree and how much greener the grass is.  I think it is a promise of hope that all things change with time even the events we have going on in our world right now.

I did have to give my Scruffy a hair cut.  I haven’t been able to get him to the groomer and I noticed yesterday he had a lot of hair in his eyes.  The poor baby could barely see.  I trimmed it up a little for him.  I am not too sure if he is all that happy about it but he can see.

O.K. Now for my confession.  This is for day 29 of the 30 day blog challenge.  The topic was a confession.  So here goes:   I love to watch TikTok videos!!!!  I am addicted.  How old am I you might ask.  I don’t care!!!   They make me laugh and right now I need to laugh.  Try it!!  You will love it!!!!

Happy Sunday and always remember

Love your day your way!!!

Weekends

Happy Monday friends how have you been?  My weekend was really good.  On Saturday I went to a local yarn shop, well it’s not really local it’s about a 30-40 minute drive for me, but that is my nearest yarn shop.  It was such a beautiful day.  There was not a cloud in the sky.  This yarn shop, The Yarn Haven, flooded about this time last year.  Their shop flooded before they were able to get in and save very much of the yarn.  It took almost a year to reopen in another location.  This was the first time I had been to the new store.  I had saved up some money just for this occasion and I was really excited about going.

The Yarn Haven is where I learned to knit socks many many years ago.  They offer a lot of different classes.  They even do a class where you can bring your work and just work on whatever project you have going.  If you need help there is some wonderful instructors there to help out.  I have learned so much through this shop.

Because Saturday was such a beautiful day I decided to take the back roads and take some pictures.  The sky was unbelievably blue.

Just look at that sky.  It is so beautiful. I love the colors of the field against the sky.

And look at those mountains in the background.  You may not be able to see it but there is snow on the mountain tops.

We have had flooding in the area the last few weeks.  This road just a couple of miles from us is still partially flooded.  One lane is actually still closed.  It still looks a little scary.

So I went to the yarn shop and it took me about two hours to get there because of all the stops I made to take photos.  I was in heaven.  Most of the time when I am passing through these areas I don’t have time to stop and get pictures.  I just decided that I was going to take the time.

This is my haul from the yarn shop.  I hadn’t been in over a year.  I had to stock up. Yeah that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  I don’t know what I am going to make with all of this but I can’t wait to get started.

The Bradford Pear trees are starting to bloom out.  This is crazy!!!  I am so afraid we are going to have freezing weather and kill all that has bloomed out.

Sunday was a restful day hanging out at home.  I did make a blueberry cobbler and it was yummy!!!!   I will have it for breakfast for a few mornings. Don’t judge!!!!

And I saved the best for last.  Today (Monday, February 24th) is Baby Kay Day!!!  That is the day that I donated a kidney to my husband and we call the kidney Baby Kay.  We celebrate every year.  It has been nine years today.  It is the best thing I have ever done. If you ever have a chance to consider donating a kidney and have any questions I would love to answer any that you might have.

I hope you had a great weekend and have a wonderful week!!!

Always remember

Love your day your way!!!!

Weekends

Hello Friends how are you?

My weekend was really good.  First let me tell you that we finally got the Fiber Optic Cable installed at our house.  They installed it on Wednesday.  It took about 6 hours.  This was the fifth attempt.  There had been rescheduling and actual cancellations, not by us, etc.  Mark and I are like kids.  We have been watching everything on TV that we couldn’t before.  Our Amazon Prime would just buffer constantly before we got the cable installed. It was so frustrating. We have been catching up on all the Star Trek Next Generation and Deep Space Nine Episodes we like. Mark has watched 5 episodes of The Mandalorian on Disney and he is in love with Baby Yoda. He keeps yelling for me to come and see how adorable Baby Yoda is.  You know we are geeks right?  I think I told you we had had Hughes Net before.   Hughes Net Satellite service is sort of a last resort for people who can’t get any other kind of internet service.  For this I guess it serves it’s purpose.  Even the man I talked to at Hughes Net said ” if you can get fiber optic, GET IT!!!”   Well we have it now and I can even use my cell phone at home to make phone calls.  Ahhh rural living, it’s the little things.

The rain continued most of last week.  It did stop for awhile on Wednesday and we were able to have the cable installed. Thank goodness. The big tree that fell in the back yard is still right where it fell.  Between Mark working and the rain we haven’t been able to cut it up.  Maybe this week. My nephew Tyler is going to come and help.   Friday Saturday and Sunday brought a lot of sunshine.  Still a little cool but with the sun shining all is well. My favorite kind of weather.  Cool, sunny days.

img_7530
Look what is blooming.  We always called these Easter flowers when I was a kid, because they usually bloom around Easter.  The weather here has been so warm and we have had so much rain lots of things are starting to bloom.

I had Galentine lunch with my friend Lorie on Friday.  We went to Kokita – Sushi Bar in Sweetwater.  It is a fairly new restaurant.  I am not a huge fan of sushi but they have a lot of other things on the menu.  I love the Hibachi Chicken and their carrots are to die for.   I have eaten there several times, actually two times in the past week.  I also had lunch there last Tuesday with my friend Dann.  If you are in Sweetwater check it out it is located on Main Street.

img_7536
Lorie gave me these sweet tulips for Valentine’s and some killer earrings.  I will take a picture and post them soon.  I love them!!!!

Mark had lavender roses sent to me at work on Friday.   They were very different, they were in a hat box.  The hat box is reusable. He knows I love roses and hats so it was the perfect combination. My mother died on Valentine’s Day back in 2003.  Mark always sends flowers on Valentine’s Day to try and make it a little brighter for me.

img_7525
Aren’t these beautiful. They are specially preserved and supposed to last for six months.  I’ll let you know.

I visited my favorite thrift store on Saturday to check out the book section.  I get a lot of books on Kindle and on my devices with Tennessee Reads.  Tennessee Reads is the program I told you about where you check out books online through your local library.  It is great!!!  I have read  a lot of books since I got it. But I still love reading books and I have a ton of them.  While I was at the thrift store, and it is always a little busy on Saturday, I was sitting in a chair looking at a book I was debating on getting.  A woman reached for a large book above me and dropped it right on my head!!!  It didn’t really hurt it just startled me more than anything.  I had to laugh at the look on the woman’s face she was so embarrassed.  I reassured her that I was fine and very hard headed so it didn’t hurt a bit.  We had a good laugh over it.

img_7549
Here are the three books I got.  I started the Dean Koontz book and it is creepy already. I haven’t read Dean Koontz in quite awhile.  The cat book is a book of short stories about cats.  The friendship cake is a novel but also has a lot of recipes in it.

I made Mark a pecan pie for Valentine’s Day.  We really don’t get into the whole celebration and spending a lot of money on Valentine’s Day.  We have been married a long time.  We buy what we want when we want it anyway without one or the other having to get it.

So the rest of the weekend was good.  Catching up on laundry and reading and knitting and watching some amazing shows.

img_7538
I repotted my Aloe Vera plant on Sunday.  It has been struggling a bit.  I think it is because the pot I had it in wasn’t draining.

I hope your Valentine’s Day and weekend was wonderful.

Always remember,

Love your day your way!!!!
