Weekends

Hello friends how have you been?

We have had some crazy weather around here.  My weekend was pretty low key.  I had to work on Saturday because I spent Friday at home waiting for the tech for our fiber optic cable.  This was the fourth attempt and we were rescheduled yet again.   I was so mad at AT&T and even made a really ugly phone call to complain but I doubt it will do any good.  We are now scheduled for Wednesday but it is supposed to rain all week so we will see.  Because I had to be at home on Friday I rescheduled several appointments for Saturday.  I hate splitting my days off.

The calm before the crazy weather.  I pass this everyday on my way to and from work.

Molly has a really bad ear infection.  She gets them constantly.  She has allergies and we really have to watch her ears.  I had to stop by the Vet Clinic last Monday morning and get her some meds. She has to be on antibiotic ear drops for ten days.  She is a gentle old girl and very easy to give medicine to.

Mom quit taking pictures of me!!!!

Last week started pretty good with mild weather and just day to day stuff. I got Mark an air fryer for Christmas. I was skeptical about having something else take up counter space but he works with several people who have them and love them. We finally started using it last week and we love it!!!  I cooked chicken breasts in 20 minutes and they were so yummy.  We have been experimenting with several things.  Adjusting the cooking time is a little challenging with different things but we are getting the hang of it.

So on Wednesday the rain started. Because the ground was already saturated the flooding started quickly in some areas. It rained all of Wednesday and then even some thunder and lightning on Wednesday night.

On Thursday morning the rain continued. I was standing at the kitchen sink just before daylight and I could see something through the window that looked like large stalks in the back yard. What??? I went out onto the deck and discovered a huuuuge tree down in the back yard. I think the roots were loosened by all the rain. It missed our house by only a few feet and our deck by inches. We didn’t even hear it fall!!!! We are just so thankful it didn’t fall on the house.

You can see how muddy the lake is from all the rain.

So on Friday the rain stopped and the temperature started dropping and by Saturday morning we had snow.  With the temperatures so low the roads became slick really fast.  I had to work on Saturday but I had already gotten to work before the roads got bad.  I knew the temperature was supposed to rise by noon and the snow would probably turn to rain.  It did.  But the snow was quite beautiful while it lasted.

More rain is predicted for this week. Oh well better rain than snow I guess.

Anyway, always remember:

Love your day your way!!

Weekends

Happy Monday friends.

I am on my way to Gatlinburg for a meeting with my Southern Highlands Attractions group. It’s always nice to catch up with this group. It’s such a learning experience every single time. I will be in Gatlinburg for a few days and I am so excited to be staying at the new Margaritaville Resort. We’ll also be going to a few places I haven’t been in a long time so that will be exciting!! I’ll have a full post on that when I get back.

Anyway back to last week and the weekend. Most of my week was just work and home and back to work again. You know how those weeks can be, they seem to just suck the very life out of you. And you know what? It shouldn’t be like that. I am always the one saying make your week special and do something to make your day or week stand out. Although sometimes just having a quiet non eventful week can have its benefits.

The quiet of the week came to an abrupt halt on Saturday when I had to go to work for a few hours in the afternoon. We had over 200 people spending the night at our attraction. Because of flu and a funeral we were short staffed and so I went in to help out. I knew I was going to be leaving on Monday for a few days so I had to buy groceries, take my Mother in law some supplies and visit with her a bit, go to a funeral and to work. That’s a lot of things to do in one day. This was Mark’s long weekend at work so I couldn’t depend on him to help out much.

The babies were very lazy Saturday morning.  I wished I could just cozy up with them and spend the day.

So Saturday morning I got up early and did some things around the house. I went into town and bought groceries, took them home and put them away, went to the Assisted Living Village, where my mother in law lives, to take her some supplies. Went to work and then went to my aunt’s funeral. A looooong day.  On Sunday I did laundry and worked on that heart cross stitch I started last week. I will have to tell you there’s not a lot of progress there. I will be very luck to finish it before Valentines Day. If I don’t I will have it for next year.

See I told you I don’t have much of this baby done yet!!!

Another reason I haven’t worked on the heart cross stitch is because I have been working on this scarf.  I love the pattern and the yarn is so soft.  But then you know me I can’t seem to work on one thing at a time.

Of course after hearing the news of Kobe Bryant and his daughter and all the other people killed in the helicopter crash, earlier on Sunday, all the things of the past week take on a different light. Those families whose lives have just changed forever is all I can think about. It just proves how very fragile and precious life is. We should treasure every day.

Always remember

Love your day your way!!!

Weekends

Hello friends,

How was your weekend? Mine was really good. Most of my weekend was rainy and soggy but one of those nice ones where you can just snuggle up at home. I did have to go out and get a few groceries but other than that I was just at home. I knitted and put out some Valentine’s decorations and just had a wonderful cozy weekend.  I also worked on a Valentine cross stitch I found on Pinterest.  Check it out below.

See what a soggy day it was Saturday.  Sunday was much sunnier but colder.

I don’t put out a lot of Valentine decorations but I did find these pillows at T.J. Maxx back before Christmas.  I got the blanket at American Eagle on Black Friday for making a purchase.  I thought it fit in with the red Valentines.

I also got this large gold heart at T.J. Maxx last week.  It is really heavy.  and I have it on top of my old victrola.  There were two sizes I think this one was $16.99 it was the larger of the two.  I almost bought the smaller one but I am so glad I got the big one.   I love it.

I also found these adorable nesting bowls at T.J. Maxx the same day I got the heart. I think all three were $7.99.

I found this little beauty at a local thrift store for $1.00. Score!!!!!  I think it will fit in with my Valentine decorations.

This is the heart cross stitch that I am working on.  I am using Aida 11 count cross stitch fabric.  The thread is all red so that makes it a little easier. I just started it I hope I can get it finished before Valentine’s Day.  I will keep you posted.  This is an easy cross stitch pattern you should try it.  Man that’s a lot of hearts.  Did I mention I love hearts.

I made beef stew in the crockpot on Sunday it was yummy and we had lots of left overs for the week.

So how was your weekend?  Did you do something fun and different? hang out at home?

No matter what always remember.

Love your day your way!!!

Weekends

Happy Monday friends how are you?  How was your weekend? Mine was really good.  I picked my niece Hailey up early Saturday morning and she spent the day with me.  She is ten going on twenty five.  She is a very feisty young lady and reminds me a lot of me when I was that age.  Poor kid.  HA!!!   But I don’t think I was ever that cool.

This is what the sky looked like when I left the house to pick up Hailey. My mom and dad always said Red Sails in the morning sailors take warning. I think the real quote is Red Skies in the morning sailor take warning. But for some reason they always said sails. I guess a reference to ships. This usually means that bad weather in the form of storms and wind is coming. I knew that some really bad wind and storms were expected for later in the evening.  I was hoping they would hold off until after I got Hailey back home.

I met Hailey and her mom in Madisonville at 7:45 Saturday morning.  Her mom was on her way to work and that was the only time to meet up with her.  We went and grabbed some breakfast and then I had to do my weekly grocery shopping.  We had such a fun day together.   We did some crafts, Hailey wanted to make something for her mom for Valentine’s Day.  I got on Pinterest and got some ideas.  We did a paper full of hearts that we painted and Hailey framed hers.  She will give it to her mom in a couple of weeks so she can have it to decorate for Valentine’s Day.

This is the picture we found on Pinterest. It is not exactly like the one we did but similar.  I love hearts, anything that is hearts.  I guess that is why I love Valentine’s Day so much.

Hailey also wanted to learn to knit.  She was a pro!! She picked it up really fast. I remember when I was ten years old my grandmother taught me how to crochet. Using one needle was intimidating and I didn’t learn to knit until I was an adult. We made a video of Hailey knitting so she if she messed up, or forgot how, she could watch the video. I taught her the garter stitch which is knitting every row but I think she will be able to handle something a little more challenging soon.  I gave her a large set of #11 needles and some really thick yarn to work with. She is making a scarf. Be still my heart.

She had finished this much before she went home. I think that is ahhhhmazing!!!!!

So we had a great day.  We baked cookies and watched the Kid’s Bakeoff Championship on TV and gave our opinions about who should be kicked off.  We took some walks and just hung out.   All the while the sky was looking darker and darker.

After I dropped Hailey off the storm that had been brewing all day hit. I was about fifteen minutes from home and I thought I was going to have to pull over and wait it out. I kept driving because I wanted to get home to the babies. They hate thunder and Mark was working late. I didn’t want them to be alone.  I was really scared. There were no tornado warnings but there was a thunderstorm warning issued for the area. I will admit I was intermittently  praying and using  some really bad language.   Tree limbs were everywhere and the rain was coming in sheets. Straight line winds took on a new meaning to me.  Luckily there was nothing blocking my road and I was able to make it home. I still had power when I got home which was a miracle all its own.

The rest of the weekend was pretty quiet with laundry and finishing my own knitting project. I will show you that later because it is a gift and going out to someone this week.

The weather was picture perfect on Sunday with a high temperature of about 70 degrees and lots of sunshine. Me and the babies enjoyed a couple of long walks and just hanging out at home.  I have to say spending the day with a ten year old can be pretty tiring.

On a different note, It seems like every January I take inventory of my surroundings and try to determine how to make my life more tranquil and calm by not having too many “things” around me. This year I tried to combine this thinking with decluttering my closet.  You may remember that I started that last year with not a lot of luck.  This time I have really been working on it.  I have a new post coming in a couple of days about shopping your own closet.  It has really helped me a lot.

I finished Sunday evening with my usual laundry detail and getting ready for the upcoming week. I am finishing a book for book club which is coming up this week.   We had two months combined because of the holidays so two books to read,  one I loved the other, meh.  I will share them soon.  So, how was your weekend?

Always remember

Love Your Day Your Way!!!
