Another Lazy Weekend

Hello friends and happy Monday. It is cool and rainy here today but the weekend felt like spring it was so warm. But just hang around because tomorrow it is supposed to be only 46 degrees F for the day’s high. That is the wacky weather we have here in East Tennessee.

It was a rather quiet weekend here. I did the grocery thing on Saturday and went to one of my favorite thrift stores. I didn’t really find a lot at the thrift store but I did find this unusual bouquet of colorful thingies. That is the only way I know how to describe it. But isn’t it pretty. I think it looks so festive for the holidays so out of control and pretty. I don’t think my husband agrees but that is ok. I’m wondering if I might not be able to use it for my Christmas Tree topper. I am still on the hunt for the topper for this year. I wanted a moon but couldn’t find the right one. A girl at Walmart suggested a hat. Not like frosty the snowman’s hat but a real hat hmmmm, that had me thinking of course.

Isn’t it gorgeous

I didn’t get all the things done this weekend that I wanted to. It was a pretty big list that I had going. I did buy groceries and get all the laundry done, I had to give flea meds to eight babies, and add a few decorations to the house. I also took all the pumpkins off of my front porch from Halloween or Thanksgiving, yes Thanksgiving sounds better. I took the pumpkins out in the yard and hacked them up. Pumpkin innards can be quite a treat for forest animal. Pumpkin is also a natural worming agent for forest animals. You can also plant the seeds and or use the pumpkin in your compost heap. The kitties were very curious about the pumpkins. They all gathered around and watched me dissect them and throw them into the woods. They weren’t as curious after they discovered the taste was terrible. I also finished knitting some hats I have been working on. I have an idea for all the hats or toboggans I am turning out but more on that later. I am also continuing to work on the afghan for my nephew for Christmas. I am thinking if I get one finished I will give the other nephew a promise note to deliver it as soon as I am finished. I will show you a picture this weekend. Maybe by then I will have made a little progress. We shall see.

Smashing pumpkins. It’s very satisfying.
Three of these finished and another one started.

We bought a heated kitty house for the babies. Well we actually bought two. They were about $80.00 each and when they arrived I was very disappointed. They actually zipped together with a heating pad inside, which we could have put together so much easier and cheaper. We will keep the one we put together but I am sending the other one back. It is just not worth the amount of money we paid for it. Very disappointing.

I cooked dinner both Saturday and Sunday. Mark was off this weekend. When he is home I try to cook and not have to get take out which we are both sick of.

On Sunday it rained and it was quite cozy and warm in the house. The kitties were all in the garage snuggled up but not in the new kitty house. They love being together on this old bed.

I love the way Milo has his leg slung over Sadie as if he is protecting her.
And these two just minutes earlier had been fighting over this blanket.

Last week I had the opportunity to teach a precious lady how to knit. She had had one lesson from someone else but was still confused. She got my name from my niece and we got together last week to work on her knitting. She is just such a sweet woman and I had so much fun showing her some stitches and helping her with her scarf she was making. We plan to get together again as she progresses. Today I received a hand written thank you card from her. Wow!! I didn’t even know people did that anymore. It’s little things like that that I absolutely love and miss in this day of snapping and texting and face timing.

How was your weekend? I am off to bed because me and my sister Sandy have a big shopping trip planned tomorrow. We are headed to Pigeon Forge to the outlet stores and a few other places. I have to be well rested for that. Have a great week!!!!

We Gathered Together

Hello friends how was your week? Your Thanksgiving? Did you spend time with family and friends? We had only a small group at our house for Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, just five people. My MIL was able to leave the assisted living village and come and eat with us. Her Birthday is in a few days so we decided to go ahead and celebrate since we were all going to be together. We had a great time.

My husband loves candied sweet potatoes. I make them just like my mama always did. I just hate peeling them.
Cornbread made for the dressing.
And of course we had to have mashed potatoes too. They’re my favorite.
Making the dressing. We always call it dressing in the south unless you are actually stuffing it in the turkey
and then it is called stuffing. We had ham instead of turkey but Mark still likes the dressing with it.
Double layer Birthday cake which I then split into four layers. You get more yummy icing this way.
She loved the cake and her Birthday Girl Button.

It was a wonderful day. My sister in law and I took all the babies for a good walk after dinner. And by the time everything was cleaned up and the left overs put away I was pretty much exhausted. Mark drove his mom back to the assisted living village and then we settled in to watch Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Unfortunately there was no Black Friday shopping for me and my sister because I had to work. But that is o.k. we already have a couple of shopping trips planned in the next week or two. Also Buster and Milo were scheduled on Friday for early morning vet appointments to get neutered. More on that in the next post. This silly kitty mama was a little emotional about taking the babies in for this procedure but they did just fine. My heart could barely stand it. Silly Kitty Mama.

I could barely keep my eyes open to watch Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. It is a tradition we watch it every year.

On Saturday I went downtown, Madisonville. The block around the courthouse was set up with vendors and food trucks for Christmas. It was a lot of fun. I bought a few things for Christmas presents and had lunch at one of the food trucks before heading to get groceries.

Rides were given around the square.
Yummy Kettle Corn. This booth smelled amazing!!!!
An event was planned for later Saturday night with some of our local churches’ choirs performing.
Isn’t our courthouse beautiful. It’s very old. There is a newer annex but I love this old one.
I didn’t get a hotdog at this booth but I thought the name was cute.
This is where I got the best cheeseburger of my life!!!!

I’m getting ready for a busy week, how about you?

Love your day your way!!!!!

Saturday Happenings

Hello and happy Saturday. Come and join me today.

This morning I decided to go and buy groceries really early. I hate buying groceries when the grocery store is so crowded. I needed a lot of things for Thanksgiving so I decided to head out before it got too crazy. Grocery shopping on the Saturday before Thanksgiving can be a little scary.

At 7:30, after doing a full kitty search inside and outside of the car, I took off. It was a chilly 33 degrees F. I did stop along the way and take a few pictures. It was such a frosty morning it almost looked like snow.

We are still having some colorful trees and doesn’t this look like snow. It was a really heavy frost.
Look at my puzzle I found at Walmart. I can’t wait to start it.

After I got home I put up the Christmas tree but I haven’t added the ornaments yet. I’ll probably do that tomorrow.

Scruffy and I chilled for a bit, I ate some leftovers for lunch and then we went out for our afternoon walk. I worked on a hat and it is driving me crazy. The yarn is a little rough and it is really making my hands dry although that happens in the winter anyway when I knit a lot. But for some reason this has been the most annoying piece of knitting. I have dropped several stitches and even pulled a lot of the stitches out for several rows. I am almost finished thank goodness. I have barely worked on the afghans for my nephews for Christmas. I will get to work on those this week, maybe, probably, I had better or they won’t be ready by Christmas. Oh well I am sure they would make great birthday presents. Mark worked outside most of the day mulching leaves and making our yard look like someone actually lives here.

To be honest with you now that I look at this I’m not really crazy about the colors.
Oh well I will finish it anyway and maybe wear it when I walk the babies.
Me and Scruffy chilling. I love the way the light filters through the room but it makes it hard to see the t.v.
Leftovers for lunch while I worked on this blog post. Check out my screen saver. HA!!!
Molly is letting me know it is time for our walk.
This little snuggle bug did not want to get up today.
One of my sweet co-workers brought me this snowman. I love him!

I made spaghetti for dinner and continued to work on the dreaded hat. I will let you know how it turns out if I ever finish it.

I hope your weekend so far is fabulous!!!!

It’s The Little Things

Happy Sunday friends. I know I say this almost every week but how do the weekends go by so fast? It seems like it was ten minutes ago that I was pulling my car in on Friday afternoon with the lovely thoughts of the weekend that would surely last forever. HA!!! Now here I am gearing up for the upcoming week.

The weather here has been wonderful. Cold mornings and cool days. The leaves have pretty much peaked and are falling fast but there is still a lot of color left to see. Sometimes when I am driving down the road and a shower of leaves fall in front of me I am mesmerized by the sheer beauty of it all.

Last week was a bit less crazy than the week before. Our work was not as busy. A few of our team members were out of the office for a few days, attending a gift buying show, so that left us a little short staffed but nothing we couldn’t handle.

A funny thing happened last night. I went to bed around 9:30, I know pretty pathetic for a Saturday night, and I woke up at 10:30, an hour later, and no matter how hard I tried or what I did I could not go back to sleep. I tossed and turned and tried reading, reciting poems in my head, breathing exercises and nothing would help. Finally I was so frustrated I got up at 2:00 AM and went downstairs to watch TV. I just knew this would put me to sleep. It did not. Mark left for work at 5:00 AM and I was still awake. I have never done that before. I am usually a great sleeper and can’t stay awake to read even a page from whatever book I am reading before falling asleep. I certainly hope this doesn’t continue tonight. At 3:00 AM I decided to write a Haiku about it, I titled it 3:00 AM Haiku:

I’ve been up all night
Sleep is an elusive dream
No pun intended.

I decided to make my nephews afghans for Christmas. They are eighteen and twenty but I know they love snuggling with blankets while they watch TV or do their gaming. I messaged each one and ask what their two favorite colors were. I planned to make each one a two color afghan. Making an afghan all one color is mind numbing. At least two colors will break it up a bit. Can I have these finished by Christmas? Time will tell I will keep you posted. Since this is crochet it does go a bit faster than knitting but that is a lot of crocheting to do between now and Christmas. It also means I will have to pull off of my knitting projects for a bit to get these finished. The youngest chose red and black for his colors and the older one chose dark blue and gray. I went to Hobby Lobby on Saturday and just my luck they were having 30% off on all of their yarn. Of course I had to add a little extra yarn for some projects I will work on some day. Yes that’s my story.

Look at all this yarn. The good thing is it is so soft and squishy and easy to work with.
Kitty Kitty is very sleepy. We had that sort of day today. It was great.!!!
Still lots of beautiful colors to see even though the leaves are falling fast.
Buster in the leaves. He is the bravest of all the kitties. He is also mama kitty’s favorite and where you see one you will see the other.
Mama Kitty has come a long way from the scrawny half starved baby that came to us in July. I am so happy she found us.
I love to look at our house through the leaves.

After having no sleep last night today was a bit tiring. I still managed to get laundry done. I also finished a hat I was working on. And I did start another hat. What did I say about no more knitting until I get these afghans finished? The babies and I went for a long walk. Now that several of the kitties have joined us on our walk I am constantly trying to keep all of them corralled where I can see them. Our road is a private road with only a couple of houses but there is still a little bit of traffic. The air felt wonderful. There was a slight breeze blowing and leaves were falling and it was just a perfect Sunday afternoon walk.

Being outside today with all the babies and the beautiful sunshine and falling leaves made me realize, it’s the little things in life that are so very precious to us. I never want to forget that.

Have a wonderful week.
