What’s In My Closet

Hey Friends, Happy Friday.   I can’t tell you how glad I am that it is Friday.  I don’t know about you but this week has kicked by butt.  Even though I haven’t had to deal with the public at work it has been a long stressful week. It is a scary time. I don’t know about your state but we still have so many people out wandering around and aimlessly going places when they so need to stay at home.  I drive to work and sit in an office all day alone just so that someone will be there to field calls and things like that.  I usually don’t see anyone else.  I leave and drive right back home without stopping anywhere.    It is lonely but I am o.k. with that.  I can handle some loneliness and isolation to keep everyone safe.  I will say we haven’t had this many meals at home in a long time.  I sort of like it.  I can see the back of my pantry.  I am loving that.  I love using what we have.

Today is day 27 of the 30 day blog challenge.  I can’t believe the end of the month is almost here.  Today I am supposed to tell you what is in my closet.  Well here is what is in my closet, STUFF, and too much of it!!!   I have been diligently working on a closet clean out.  Remember the post I did about “Five Tips For Shopping Your Closet”  check it out if you missed it.  This will give you an idea about what I have in my closet and how I deal with it.

As I said I still have way too much in my closet.   I haven’t bought a lot of clothes in the last year or so.  I don’t like the size I am right now and when I am unhappy with weight or how I look I am not as apt to buy new things.  It’s probably a good thing with no one knowing about the financial state of things.  I think we should be frugal in our spending, who knows what might be next.

I have a main closet in our master bedroom.  It is a walk in closet and holds a lot of clothes and shoes.  This is where I keep all of my clothes that are in season.  I have shirts, sweaters and light jackets hanging on one end.  I have dresses and long sweaters hanging on another.  I also group my pants and skirts.  Sadly I have probably only worn about 10% of what is hanging in my closet.  This is partly because some of the things don’t fit and partly because I just don’t bother to dig in and wear them.  I keep out of season shoes in this closet as well.  I know it sounds like I should have the seasonal shoes in this closet but I don’t.  You know me by now right??  Oh and my husband’s things are in this closet as well although he complains that his space is only about a third of mine.  I guess that’s about right.

In another bedroom closet I keep most of my shoes that I currently wear, boots, tennis shoes etc.  This way when I am getting ready in this room I am able to just grab the shoes I need and go.  Hello my name is Lisa and I have a shoe and boot addiction.  I have approximately 50 pairs of shoes and 25 pairs of boots give or take 25 pairs that I may or may not have stored in the basement.  Yes I know!!!!

img_8224
I find the best way to store my boots is lined up agains the wall.  I stuff rolled up magazines in them to keep them upright.

img_8225
Some of my shoes.  At one time I took a pic and taped it to the outside of each box so I could see what was inside but now most of the shoe boxes come that way.

In another closet in a bedroom,  that I have made into my den, I keep all of my jackets and coats that I wear in the winter, fall and early spring.  This closet is also where I store my out of season clothes.  I usually store them in totes inside the closet or just hang then in the closet.  It is a fairly large closet.

So there you have it.  My closet. I am trying to take out several pieces a week and add them to my donation bag.  I will do better at this.  I guess I have been in sort of a slump lately with all that is going on in the world.  I have to admit right now everything sort of takes a back seat to what is going on in our world.  You know what I mean right?  We must keep moving forward with our day to day lives.  But it is so hard sometimes when you switch on the news and hear the plight of our nation. I think that what I have in my closet is not nearly as important as what I might do to help someone else.

I just had to sneak in this little bit of adorable.  This is Kitty Kitty watching for Mark and Scruffy to come back in the house.

How are you this week?  How have things changed for you?

What Is Your Hidden Talent? I Make Cakes!!!

Hello friends and Happy Thursday.  Welcome to day 26 of the 30 day blog challenge.  Can you believe how fast this month has gone by?  Wow!!!  Silly me, I remember at the beginning of the month wondering if March was coming in like a lamb or a lion.  This is dependent on the weather you know.  How did I know it was coming in like a lion hopped up on steroids looking for someone to claw their eyes out!!!  Thank you Corona.

Anyway today’s blog deals with hidden talent.  Do you have a hidden talent that no one knows about?  That no one would imagine that you might have?

Today I will tell you about my hidden talent.  Well I guess it is a hidden talent.  If you know me then you probably know I am a baker.  I love to bake, cookies, cakes, bread you name it.

Several years ago I actually started a catering business and did cakes for events and weddings and things like that.  It got too big even for me.  I couldn’t handle the business.  A lot of people love cakes, special made, and they are willing to pay big bucks for them.  The only problem was I just couldn’t keep up.  My mom was sick and I was trying to help my sister take care of her and work a full time job.  I had to let it go.

I knew when I started having chest pains and panic attacks it was time to stop.  I will never forget the night I gave up my part time catering business.  I was talking to my sister Sandy on the phone and I was telling her how I felt.  I was so stressed out, having chest pains etc. and she said “Why don’t you just stop? You don’t have to do this”. I just sat there and I said ” I don’t?”  No, stop it she said!!! The voice of reason.  Sometimes we can’t hear it when it is ourselves.    I wasn’t really doing it for the money as much as the obligation that people wanted a nice cake.   I couldn’t do it anymore. I had to give it up.  I will never forget the immense relief I felt when I said, I am taking no more orders!!!!

But you never know what might happen down the road.  I might go back into the business when I retire.  It could be a second career for me.  Who knows??

I wanted to share a few cakes I have made.  I couldn’t find all the pics I wanted but you get the idea.  I love doing cakes and that will never stop.img_8194
This is a Groom’s cake I made for my nephew’s wedding.

A funny story about the wedding cake shown below.  I was making it for my niece Kim.  This cake is nothing like what she had planned.  However, the night before the wedding I started decorating the cake, it just wasn’t woking.  I worked with it all night.  I decided at the last minute to do a basket weave, they’re really easy, and put some flowers in and deal with it.

The next morning I called Kim and said ” I have good news and bad news about the cake”. She said “o.k.”  “I said the good news is, it is beautiful!!!!”  She said “o.k.”  I said “The bad news is it isn’t exactly like the cake you picked out”. She laughed and said “that’s o.k. I trust you” WHEW!!!!!  It was a beautiful cake but that’s just the sort of thing that made me a nervous wreck.

It is a hidden talent that I have.  Now days I only stick to doing cakes and things for family and friends.  But like I said you never know what might come up down the road and I will be back in the cake making business!!!!

What Is Your Biggest Regret

Webster’s defines regret as feeling sorrowful or having remorse for an act, fault, disappointment etc.   A sense of loss, disappointment, dissatisfaction.   You see that disappointment seems to be the main focus here.  So what do you regret? or what has been a disappointment to you? I suppose is the question of this blog post.

I think that we have disappointments every day.  I don’t necessarily think they would always be considered  regrets.  Especially if the disappointment turned out to be something good in the long run and we just couldn’t see it at the time it was happening.

I can’t say I have a lot of regrets.  I am stumped to come up with something that would be my biggest regret.  I always wished I had gotten more education or learned different things.  I can’t really call that a regret because I may still do that.  I wish I had learned to play another musical instrument but again I still can.

I do regret not spending time with my nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews when they were younger.  I always loved being around them and seeing the world through their eyes.  They were growing up at a time when I was younger and busier and just didn’t make the time for them that I should have. So yes, time is something you can never get back, and moments only happen once. Choose wisely.

What regrets do you have?  Any you would like to share?

Always remember

Love your day your way!!!

Tuesday Experience, Working From Home

Happy Tuesday? friends.  I feel like I am losing track of the days.  It is raining again here in East Tennessee.  The temperatures are very mild but rain rain and more rain.  Of course if you have to stay in I suppose it’s not too bad it is actually rather cozy.

I have been working at home a bit and I have to say I rather like it.  The only problem is my co-workers are very needy and they breathe on me and they seem to think that because I am at home they can now have a potty break every five minutes.  This is followed by replenishing water and food bowls and multiple treats.  My husband and I are choosing to stay in separate parts of the house. We feel that by being in different parts of the house and giving each other some distance we will ward off a divorce or possibly keep one of us from running amok with an axe.  It’s worked out pretty well so far.

img_8142
I  had all of my work spread out on my bed when I noticed I could see me working in the armoire and you know I had to take a selfie.  Of course this led to about 15 selfies lol.

img_8158
When working from home you can take a quick nap after lunch with  your co-worker.  Note: this should not be done at your real workplace.

My little mother in law, who lives in the assisted living village, in quarantine, called me this morning and told me that she had seen someone make a delivery to her next door neighbor’s back door.   The only deliveries made to the village are supposed to be through the front and items are collected by a Nurse or CNA.  Turns out the contraband was a crossword puzzle book in a plastic bag.   Her neighbor met the person at her back door (They have two entrances into their rooms.)  So my mother in law had it all planned out for me to arrive tomorrow, approximately ten minutes after she called me and she would meet me at her back door. I would slip the cookies and drinks and depends into the door.  She said we might even get to have a little conversation.  I told her I didn’t think I was supposed to do that.  She said don’t worry it will be o.k.  So I was supposed to make the drop tomorrow.  As I mentioned we have been taking the items to the front door, we ring a bell, and a Nurse or CNA comes out and gets the goods.  I even heard they kept the items in a quarantined area for a few days before giving it to them. That makes more sense.

Well I worried most of the day about what to do.  I knew I couldn’t make the drop like she wanted me to.  I even considered bringing in the big guns, my husband, she thinks he is perfect and will listen to anything he says.  But turns out I didn’t have to worry about it.  She called me tonight and said they weren’t allowed to get any deliveries at their outside doors. The staff had even put a sign on every door!!!!  So we will deliver the items to the front entrance as usual tomorrow.  My heart goes out to these precious people. As bad as it is for us to be homebound, think about them not even being able to visit with the other residents in the village.

So today is day 24 of my 30 day blog challenge and the topic is:
What attracts you in love, so let’s see:  Here are just a few.

I am going to refer to this from a stand point of falling in love but could very well be just in loving anyone.  These are in no particular order of importance.

  1. Manners, I remember when I was dating, and it may be a southern thing, but men who had manners and knew how to use them made me crazy!! in a good way.
  2. Someone who has a take charge attitude but also appreciates me for wanting to do my own thing.
  3. Personality, making me laugh, getting along with others
  4. Confidence
  5. Having a sense of humor.  You have to have one being around me, just ask my husband.
  6. Intelligence
  7. Having a neat appearance and caring about how you look.
  8. Someone who tells me I am beautiful and that they love me constantly.
  9. Honesty
  10. Someone who can be completely comfortable around me.

Do you remember why you fell in love?  What it was about that person in your life that made you crazy about them.  Being quarantined might be a good time to think of these things. Just saying!!!!

Always remember

Love your day your way!!!
